ANNANDALE & ESKDALE
Annandale & Eskdale stretches from Gretna on the Scottish border north of Carlisle - east to the Scottish Borders beyond Langholm and west to Dumfries. The principal towns are Annan, Lockerbie, Moffat
and Lochmaben. Perhaps the best-known town is Gretna which is a magnet for couples from all over the world who come here to “tie the knot”.

This beautiful part of our region has extensive forests and rolling hills which makes it a rich playground for those who enjoy outdoor pursuits. There are marvellous walking and cycling routes to suit all abilities. The local rivers - the Annan and the Border Esk - are renowned for the quality of their salmon and sea trout fishing.
From its lowland hills - with interesting features such as the “Devil’s Beeftub” and the “Grey Mare’s Tail” - to the hauntingly beautiful Solway Coast - there is so much to offer visitors.
The good ale pubs are listed on the right. Unfortunately, there are no cask-ale outlets in the larger towns of Lockerbie and Langholm - but the Branch is working on it.
