The Pleuchie’s Howff - Dumfries

Pleuchie’s is ideally situated on the main road running into the town from the east.

Only 5 minutes walk from Dumfries Railway Station and a 10 minute walk from the town centre. There is ample parking.

Pleuchie’s Howff is the newest addition to the Real Ale scene in Dumfries.  Formerly the “Balmoral Hotel”, it is under new management and is a welcome addition to the pub scene on the east side of the town. The new tenants - the Coulter family - have returned to their home town of Dumfries after

training and experience in catering and bar management in Manchester.

The Howff a large public bar with an attractive island bar and a warming open fire with comfortable chairs on one side and a sports area on the other. The dining room has a small bar which will serve ales into the dining room as and when required.  There are five double bedrooms - all en-suite - available for bed & breakfast at a reasonable cost.  All of these have been extensively renovated and are clean, comfortable, and stylishly furnished.

One of the main aims of the management is to make the Howff  a “special dining experience”.

All meals will be freshly prepared, using locally sourced produce where possible.  The menus will be varied and will offer  dishes to suit all tastes.

The spacious and tastefully-decorated dining room can accommodate 50 covers and is the ideal setting for an evening meal or social event.

The attractive and comfortable public bar has a pool table, darts board, free WIFI access and Sky Sports TV channels for large sporting events.

It also has a developing range of Scottish Malt whiskies.

For those not familiar with ‘the Doric’,

a “Pleuchie” is a ploughman and a “Howff” is a meeting place.
